Free bet on the next Galway manager 2009

The Galway County Board has been fishing around for a new football manager to replace Liam Sammon and according to the Paddy Power betting it looks like they just might have hooked former Armagh coach Joe Kernan.

The former All Ireland winning manager with the Orchard County has shot in as the 5/4 favourite with the bookie. He was the boss of the Ulster side for six years and is hailed as a hero in Armagh.

Liam Sammon, who won a Connacht Championship in 2008 with Galway, could only reach a fourth round qualifier this year where they were beaten by Donegal. He had the option of staying on for one more year but decided against it.

Other potential coaches caught up in the betting net include, the oldest man left in the game Mick O’Dwyer at 5/1, Galway’s own Val Daly at 7/1 and current Sligo coach Kevin Walsh appears in the betting 4/1.

Paddy Power said:

There doesn’t seem to be anything fishy about Liam Sammon’s exit, but it would be ironic if Mick ODwyre got the job, the second oldest man in the game being replaced by the oldest.

If there is any truth in what has been reported lately it looks like Joe Kernan will be at the Galway reigns next year.
